Building for the bots

Wednesday, October 21st, 2026

Last week I had my first experience of buying a SaaS product specifically for an AI agent.

I needed a way for my marketing bot to post directly to YouTube, TikTok etc. in an easy way.

The bot recommended Buffer, which had an MCP server, and was an official Grok Bot app - and now I'm paying them $30/mo so this bot can post weird Power Wash Simulator knockoff videos every now and again.

This got me thinking - maybe I should make my own MCP server for PromptBase?

So I did!

It wasn't hard at all (just let an AI build it for you), and it's already getting some small, but quite dedicated usage!

So far it's had 60 users, 1,300 searches, and around 10 downloads.

An MCP server is like an API, but designed for agents (if you didn't know).

The PromptBase one lets you search, download, and use your prompts directly in ChatGPT, Claude etc.

If I was starting a product from scratch today, I think I'd potentially just build an MCP server (and a landing page with a link to it), and that's it.

It seems like the superior way to interact with a product in a future where you're mainly talking to agents. I have barely opened the actual Buffer website.

It also feels like a growth hacky way to get ahead of sites that will be slow to change because they mostly cater to humans (as weird as that sounds).

The big unlock I think is if you can somehow become an official app via the official mini app stores within ChatGPT etc.

I've applied to every one, but no response back yet - definitely feels like if you can get in early, like an early app on the iPhone, you'll probably get a lot of free distribution.

I'm interested to see if this grows!
