Payment Problems

Titanic Museum, Belfast
Titanic Museum, Belfast

Last weekend I visited the wonderful city of Belfast in Northern Ireland: the home of Tayto crisps and Titanic.

A bit like Titanic, my hopes last week of setting sail with Zoneless to find a first customer started off with great optimism - only to smash directly into an iceberg and leave me stranded in some cold Atlantic water without a paddle.

Literally, it seems all payment processors (including Paddle) will not let me use them for subscription payments for managed hosting instances of Zoneless.

My idea was: some marketplace would pay $X/mo for me to host Zoneless for them, so they don't have to self-host and set it up themselves. But I can't do that if I can't accept payments.

The issue is, payment processors like Stripe & Paddle see Zoneless as high risk, because it mentions crypto and payments on the website.

But, Zoneless is basically boring software - it's self custodial, never has access to funds, just code: it would be like me hosting some custom spreadsheet software.

I've appealed the rejections, but no luck, so I'm having to resort to extreme measures: can I build my own subscription system? Let's find out...
