The sign up flow for Paper Website has always been not great, so I took a small detour today from my big features to try and fix it.
I think the main problem was this "Create a Website" page:
The first thing users are presented with are prices, and even worse - a confusing choice between two prices. It's very overwhelming.
To try and solve this, I've relegated my "Ultimate Deal" in favour of simply getting users to start a Free Trial.
If they enjoy the free trial, they can just easily upgrade later.
Also, I've upped my free trial period from 14 days to 30 days.
Creating a paper website is hard - you need to think of something to write, write it, download an app, take a picture of a page, (maybe) edit it, then, finally, it's live.
I'm confident once someone actually does this they'll see the magic - but I want to give them as much breathing room as I can, and 30 days feels a lot more pleasant.
